Hamilton Architects announced that plans had been submitted for a ‘Creative Hub for Enterprise Causeway’ at the old Bushmills Courthouse in June of last year. If you’ve ever patronised Flash in the Pan, Bushmill’s award-winning fish ‘n’ chip shop, you’ll probably have walked past this derelict, old B1 listed Georgian building without a second glance. Unless you happen to be an architecture fanatic like me!
Supported by between €5-7m of Interreg Peace IV funding and additional, match government funding, this nineteenth century Bushmills building, originally used as a Petty Session Court, is to be converted into The Courthouse Shared Space Creative Hub. The mixed use facility will have 13-15 micro-business units, retail space, a cafe, a community garden, event space, visitor facilities, and a ‘messy studio’.
